Gas2Go Cylinder Hire
Gas2Go® offers an extensive range of specialty refrigerants for air conditioning, chiller and refrigeration applications and is complemented by gas management solutions to support your business.
Here’s how Gas2Go® cylinder hire works — from hire fees and returns to what happens if a cylinder is lost or damaged. Read the FAQs below to understand your responsibilities and how we help manage cylinders safely and efficiently across Australia.
Who owns the cylinders?
All cylinders remain the property of Beijer Ref. When you purchase Gas2Go® or other refrigerant gases, the cylinder is supplied to you on a hire basis — not sold. You are responsible for its safe use and return.
What does my hire fee include?
Your cylinder hire fee covers:
Regular tracking and inspection of cylinders
Periodic testing and maintenance
Painting, labelling, and upkeep
Administrative and handling costs.
When does my hire period start and end?
The hire period begins when the cylinder is delivered or collected and ends when it is returned to Beijer Ref or an authorised agent. A cylinder is only considered returned once Beijer Ref provides you with a written receipt confirming it’s been received.
When do rental charges begin?
For refrigerant cylinders, Beijer Ref provides a 30-day rental-free period starting from the date the cylinder is dispatched or collected.
For industrial cylinders, rental charges commence immediately on the date of delivery or collection.
How do I return empty cylinders?
Please return all empty cylinders to your local Beijer Ref branch or authorised agent as soon as possible. Cylinders must be returned clean, safe, and in good condition. Return costs are the responsibility of the customer.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
In some cases, a refundable deposit may be charged when cylinders are supplied. Once the cylinders are returned in clean, safe, and serviceable condition, Beijer Ref will refund the deposit (or an appropriate portion of it).
How do I check how many cylinders I have on hire?
Each Beijer Ref rental invoice shows the total number of cylinders currently held under your account. If you notice any discrepancies, please let us know in writing within 14 days of receiving your invoice. If no notification is received, the number shown on your invoice will be taken as correct.
This information is also available in our Gas2Go Apps and can include additional tracking information.
Can I loan or hire out the cylinder to someone else?
Yes, you may use or hire out cylinders in the ordinary course of your business — but ownership always remains with Beijer Ref . If Beijer Ref needs to collect cylinders from your premises, reasonable transport and administration fees may apply.
Can I refill or repair the cylinder myself?
No. For safety and compliance reasons, only Kirby or our authorised representatives are permitted to refill, repair, or modify cylinders. Do not tamper with, refill, or use cylinders for any purpose other than holding or transporting gas supplied by Beijer Ref.
Who is responsible for cylinder safety and storage?
You are responsible for the safe storage and handling of all cylinders and stillages. Cylinders should only be used for their intended purpose — to contain or transport Beijer Ref supplied gas.
What happens if a cylinder is lost or damaged?
If a cylinder is lost or damaged while in your possession, you are responsible for the replacement cost, as outlined in our Cylinder Service Rate Charge Schedule. Beijer Ref reviews and updates these rates periodically to reflect current replacement values.
When is a cylinder considered lost?
A cylinder will be deemed lost if:
You notify Beijer Ref that it is lost, or
It has not been returned within 12 months of being supplied — whichever comes first.
If I find or return a lost cylinder, can I get a refund?
If you have been charged for a lost cylinder and return that lost cylinder within 6 months of being charged the replacement cost, Beijer Ref will refund that amount (less hire fees for the extended period). If it’s returned after 6 months, no refund will apply.
